Consistency Compounded

Typically every person in this world does not listen to each and every thing our parents tell us to do. If people were doing only that then world will not have changed in anyway. But then there are certain things, which these modern day business or fitness gurus wont tell you and not even your friends and colleagues. If your parents have told you the thing which I have now written about, then there is a high chance you might have overlooked or brushed it aside like I did in my youthful times.

While you have been watching or listening to podcasts on YouTube, a lot of advertisements of random self-proclaimed life gurus pop up. All try to sell you their training courses, online seminars on how to become smart, to have passive incomes, to have multiple incomes, to get out of your boring jobs and many more such subjects. Nobody tries to sell you the virtue of consistency. So I thought I would just write about it and share it silently reminding that one important thing our parents were reminding us about.

In our neigbouring village there is one Damale ajji (for those who don’t know Marathi, she is an old lady with the surname Damale. Ajji means grandmother). She is believed to have crossed hundred years of age and she still does 12 Suryanamaskars every morning as a habit. She started on this habit when she was still a child and has continued on this habit even at this ripe old age.

She lost her husband at a very young age, she does not have any immediate kin and their properties in the village are now lost and she has to live with some of the distant relatives. In spite of all the sorrows in the life, she has managed herself well due to her better health, mental as well physical. Apart from the loss of some hearing, she still helps with the household chores and even participates in different Yoga events whenever invited.

We all learned compound interest in our school but things learnt in school are rarely applied in the later life, because we commonly tend to limit the learnings upto passing of exams. The small habit of 12 suryanamaskars a day has fully compounded in the life Damale Ajji with her grand resilience towards all the difficulties thrown out onto her by life. She did not learn the concept of compound interest in the school for sure because she went only upto 4th standard but she is a great living example how good habits compound over time.

People have built houses, constructed roads, dug wells and what not just by having the sheer habit of being consistent in their efforts. If you are not doing those efforts and not having even one active income then I think people should not expect to have multiple and passive sources of income even if these business gurus boast about it from the deep insides of their hearts.

The converse also holds true with the bad habits. After the pandemic, in June 2022, schools restarted with their full actual classes and all the teachers are still struggling with one thing, poor attention spans of the students. It is a proven fact that excessive use of mobile phones and distractions brought about by it impacted our brain functions adversely. Not just our children but we, the adults also became addicted to the mobile phones and online content. The result of these habits has now started to compound, memory loss, low attention spans, eye problems, migraines and headaches and what not. Now you have to deal with those problems or wait for that doomsday.

Just be consistent in whatever positive you are doing friends!

Watch this video of Damale aajji for that small bit of inspiration.
